Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation (IPV) therapy is an airway clearance and lung recruitment therapy designed to help mobilize secretions and optimize lung function for respiratory compromised patients.
By delivering a unique combination of flow characteristics, IPV Therapy works to:
- Navigate around airway obstructions
- Recruit the lungs
- Break up and mobilize secretions
What Happens During an IPV Therapy Treatment?
IPV therapy delivers high-velocity, high-frequency bursts of air that “percuss” within the lungs. During treatment, these flow dynamics work together to effectively mobilize and clear secretions, helping target distal lung regions – even beyond areas of obstruction.
Percussion
Percussive bursts effectively break up secretions and mucus plugs.
High-velocity Flow
Accesses distal airways beyond obstructions or secretions and mobilizes secretions away from airway walls
Entrainment
Large entrainment ports allow room air to be entrained as needed.
Unrestricted expiratory flow
Helps move secretions outward through the airways.
Nebulization
Helps keep airways hydrated.
Tailoring IPV® Therapy
Because no two respiratory patients are alike, IPV® Therapy allows clinicians to tailor treatment to each patient’s comfort, tolerance, and clinical needs, with adjustable controls such as pulse amplitude and frequency.
Therapy Delivery Methods
IPV® Therapy supports versatile delivery methods, allowing treatment to meet patients wherever they are in their care journey.
